7th May 2019
…”Downstairs in the Old Fruitmarket, Scottish vocalist Nichola Scrutton breathed deeply into a mic, the sounds mirrored by clarinettist Alex South across the room. In between, the audience were caught in a dexterous layering of breath that felt like the wash and roll of the sea.”…

Love Street – The Musical
Martin O’Connor and I are once again working together – this time on a co-commission by Outspoken Arts Scotland.
We have been invited to develop a proposal for a new theatre production in Paisley called Love Street – The Musical.
Over the last couple of months we have been out and about visiting organisations and gathering stories from people in Paisley who have memories and connections to Love Street. More to follow…
Rough Breathing is a collaborative performance project with vocalist Nichola Scrutton and clarinettist Alex South. This sound clip is from a free improvisation performed as part of a sharing with an invited audience at the end of a residency at CCA Glasgow in November 2018.
Many thanks to Alasdair Campbell and all at the AC Projects/CCA Creative Lab Residency. And thanks to Keith Bruce at The Herald for including us in this review.
Near the end of our CCA/AC Projects Residency we held an informal event in the Creative Lab. We shared a performance of work-in-progress and had a wonderful Q and A/discussion.
Many thanks indeed to Keith Bruce for including Rough Breathing in this nice piece about CCA Glasgow and the Counterflow Festival 2019.
