Nichola Scrutton is an award-winning composer/performer, artist and facilitator, currently based in Glasgow, Scotland. She creates evocative experimental works through a multi-faceted sound/art practice. She has extensive experience working in interdisciplinary, participatory collaborations and producing a range of self-directed projects. Her work has been broadcast internationally, and recent examples include Interzone, released on Nonclassical, and the long-form radio artwork Dream Stream, produced for Radio Art Zone, European Capital of Culture 2023.
Nichola’s new album Scenes from the Blue was released in March 2026, with support from Creative Scotland. She is currently an In Motion composer with Sound and Music (2025-26), and has other works in the pipeline. She also works with Sonic Bothy inclusive music charity, performing in the Ensemble and facilitating projects and workshops.
Nichola studied a BMus (First Class Honours), an MMus in Composition, and was awarded a PhD in Electroacoustic Composition from University of Glasgow 2009, which was supported by the Arts and Humanities Research Council.
